MMA Fighting features Canelo Alvarez vs. GGG 3 live round-by-round updates from one of the best boxing fights of the year taking place Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

This is the third meeting between the two fighters. The first time they fought in 2017, a draw was decided and Alvarez won a majority decision over GGG on September 15, 2018.

Round 1: Golovkin scores with a job straight from the bell. Canelo tries to get his own shot going as they take the time to measure each other. Canelo left corner entry. Looking straight at the body through Canelo. Not much output from either fighter with less than a minute left in the opening round. Canelo has more success with his jab and takes a quiet first three minutes.

Round 2: Canelo gets a jab and then gets adventurous with a lunge to the left. Golovkin gets busier with his jab. Canelo scored, but couldn’t land his heavier punches. Jab by Canelo, Golovkin attacks the body. Canelo content to scare away. Right hand to the body for Canelo. Action is still somewhat tentative by two rounds.

Round 3: Great counter left by Canelo lands, the biggest shot of the fight so far. Canelo doubles the jab. Golovkin uses his own jab to sort things out. Canelo rushes forward. Golovkin connects with a jab. Canelo lands one himself.

Round 4: Canelo strings punches well, Golovkin can’t do much more than jab. Canelo is also working on his jab. Right hand over the top for Canelo, then right to the body. A combo creates a glancing right hand over the chin for Canelo. Golovkin lands a jab, but Canelo backs him again with the right.

Round 5: Golovkin triples with a shot. Canelo stalks him, there’s a right on the body, then a left. Canelo rips another good one to the body. Jab-jab-body blow combo scores for Canelo. Left hook from Canelo, then a body shot that causes an off-balance Golovkin to take a few steps back. Overhand right scores for Canelo. The champion retires at the end of a closer round.
