On Thursday, the company said Bowen, who was the executive vice president of operations for Disney streaming, will immediately take charge of its Disney+ subscription service.

Michael Paull previously served as president of Disney+ alongside the company’s other streaming brands.

In the new standalone role, Bowen is expected to lead the launch of the ad-supported Disney+ tier, as well as promotion of the service and its content. She will continue to report to Michael Paull, Disney’s president of the direct-to-consumer division.

Disney announced its new ad-supported Disney+ tier in March and said it would launch in the US later this year. The new offering will be expanded internationally in 2023.

In August, the company unveiled a new pricing structure that includes ad-supported Disney+ as part of an effort to make its streaming business profitable. As of December 8 in the US, Disney+ with commercials will cost $7.99 per month – currently the price of Disney+ without ads. The price of ad-free Disney+ will rise 38% to $10.99 – an increase of $3 per month.

“Alisa has been a vital member of our leadership team since Disney+ was founded,” said Paull. “She possesses a rare and valuable combination of deep institutional knowledge, forward-thinking innovation and a global vision rooted in a strong focus on our consumer, which is perfectly suited to this critical role, and I believe she will provide an immediate and positive impact on the company.”

Bowen joined Disney in 2017 as senior vice president of digital media and chief technology officer of the company’s international operations. She previously served as Chief Technology Officer of News Corp Australia.

Clarification: This story has been updated to clarify that Michael Paull previously served as president of Disney+ alongside the company’s other streaming brands. Alisa Bowen takes on a new independent role as president of Disney+.
