Aaron Rodgers said earlier this week that he wanted to watch some football while in London for the Packers game against the New York Giants.
That’s exactly what he did during the United States Women’s National Team friendly football match against England at Wembley Stadium in London on Friday.
And he was joined by the real Ted Lasso!
Rodgers was spotted boxing with Emmy award-winning actor Jason Sudeikis, who plays Lasso in the Apple TV+ sports comedy-drama series ‘Ted Lasso’. The show, created by Sudeikis, premiered in 2020.
Sudeikis’ character is an American football coach who is sent to the United Kingdom to lead the struggling AFC Richmond club. He recently won his second consecutive Emmy for Leading Actor in a Comedy Series.
The Packers play Sunday at the home of Tottenham Hotspur football club — Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — where they compete in the NFL’s International Series for the first time.
Rodgers has said he has been a fan of ‘Ted Lasso’ in the past, including last year’s appearance on ‘The Rich Eisen Show’.
Rodgers’ favorite team is Man City
Rodgers has spent the past few years discussing how he is a fan of European football. Another football game could be on Rodgers’ to-do list for Saturday, although that would involve longer travel.
His favorite team, Man City, will play Southampton at 3pm on Saturday (9am local time) at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England, about 200 miles from where the Packers play on Sunday.
Man City, of course, played Bayern Munich at Lambeau Field this summer.
Allen Lazard joins Rodgers in USWNT game vs. England
The Packers quarterback wasn’t the only one watching the USWNT Friday afternoon. Allen Lazard joined him. It’s no surprise that Lazard accompanied Rodgers during the game, as a football is never far from the Packers wide receiver.
He always juggles a soccer ball before every game, something he says helps with his concentration, he told reporter Kassidy Hill last month.
For the record, England won the friendly 2-1.
