NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans were ejected from Sunday’s game for fighting.
Evans and Lattimore found themselves in the middle of a brawl that took place in the fourth quarter of a match at the Caesars Superdome.
It’s not the first time these two players have fallen for it. Lattimore and Evans have a history of notable dislike for each other, starting in 2017 when Evans came running onto the field and shoved Lattimore in the back. Evans was banned for one game for the incident.
Lattimore shoved Evans in the back during a 2020 competition and Evans knocked Lattimore’s helmet off, resulting in an unnecessary $10,500 roughness fine for Lattimore.
The Bucs got ready to kick after Tom Brady’s deep pass to Scotty Miller in third and fifth was incomplete with 12:55 left in the fourth quarter. Lattimore covered Miller during the play and appeared to wave his arm at Brady dismissively as Brady walked past him after the play and gestured at someone.
Brady turned to face Lattimore and began to walk toward him as the Buccaneers running Leonard Fournette back ran to give Lattimore a shove. Lattimore pushed Fournette back when both Marcus Maye and Evans of Saints got involved.
Evans initially appeared to be walking back to the sidelines before turning and running onto the field, giving Lattimore a shove and knocking him to the ground. Maye then went after Evans as Lattimore rose to approach Evans again.
Maye and Evans fell to the ground together and flags were thrown as other players ran to join the fray. Lattimore landed on the ground under Evans and Maye. As the brawl escalated, Lattimore stood, with several players still on the ground, screaming as teammates tried to pull him back.
After the brawl was over, Saints defense and team captain Cameron Jordan Lattimore walked off the field with one arm around his shoulder. Lattimore returned to the sidelines to talk to co-defense coordinator Kris Richard, while linebacker Demario Davis, another team captain, also came over to talk to him.
Lattimore and Evans were both ejected after a quick discussion by officials. As Evans left the field, he appeared to be pushing a cameraman and handing his gloves to two fans.
The Buccaneers had spoken this week about the need to keep their emotions in check against the Saints. Brady has thrown a tablet down the sidelines in the past two games between the teams. The Buccaneers did not win a regular season game against the Saints in 2019 or 2020.
The Buccaneers held off the Saints 20-10, giving Brady his first regular-season win over New Orleans after four consecutive defeats.
