Carlo Ancelotti made five changes from the team that won the Glasgow midweek game. There were minutes for Lucas Vazquez, Rudiger, Rodrygo, Hazard and a rare start for Dani Ceballos. Real Mallorca came to the Bernabeu looking for deep defense and a goal on the counter or from a set-piece. In the first half Mallorca managed to do just that, but in the end Madrid, and Vinicius and Rodrygo in particular, broke the dam and their quality shined. Full rating of match players below:
Thibaut Courtois-6: Only 19 touches in the game and 1 save. Mallorca narrowly got past the center circle. No mistake on the Muriqi target.
Luke Vazquez-7: Look at this heat map and he was actually a right winger. There were 3 fouls and a dangerous free kick high up the field. Worked relentlessly in the transition to come back against Kang-In Lee.
Antonio Rudiger-7: Very solid performance from the back and ends with his first goal for Real Madrid – a volley on a set piece from Toni Kroos.
David Alaba-7: Almost made the Betis goal again by giving another centimeter-perfect pass to Vinicius early in the match. Played the game as a left back to provide more fluidity in attack.
Ferland Mendy-5: Terrible mark on the Muriqi target – didn’t even challenge the striker in the air. Played one of the most dangerous passes of the first half, a ball that was clipped to Rodrygo’s chest in the penalty area.
Toni Kroos-8: Played overall as a deep-lying playmaker today with both Tchoaumeni and Camavinga on the bench. Registered a late assist on Toni Rudiger’s goal.
Fede Valverde-8: Scored the goal of the season. Starts from his own half and carries the ball for some 60 yards before a perfect strike with his left foot hits the top corner of the net.
Dani Ceballos-8: Worked tirelessly all night. It felt like he sometimes ran to cover ground when he didn’t have to. Managed a few long range shots that alarmed the Mallorca net. Got the crowd going after struggling his way out of the intense pressure, even falling to the ground at one point, getting back up and making a vertical pass to Vinicius.
Dani Ceballos against Majorca:
• 70 minutes
• 91 touches
• 69 successful passes (91%)
• 4 key cards
• 1/1 long balls
• 3/4 successful dribbles
• 7 matches won
• 5 ball recoveries
• 3 tackles— The Red Fury™ (@SpainSystem) September 11, 2022
Rodrygo goes-9: The Brazilian was the player who made the most ball flights into the penalty area and got into dangerous positions. Had 2-3 shots in the first half but failed to convert the shots into goals. a nice skill to beat 2 or 3 players.
Vinicius Junior—8.5: One of the players had to unlock a deep block. Vini was never afraid of dribbling, or even a show boat, and faced some tough challenges for his efforts. Despite the physical punishment from Mallorca, Vinicius managed to score the leading goal with a small chip over Rajkovic. The Brazilian has now scored in five games in a row.
Eden Hazard—5: Dropped in to try and tie the game together but failed to really impress in the match.
bills:
Nacho-6.5: Played center back for the last 30 minutes and moved Alaba to left back.
Luka Modric-6.5: Replaced Eden Hazard, but moved into midfield and pushed Fede wide with Rodrygo center stage.
Dani Carvajal—6: Replaced an injured Lucas Vazquez in the 70th minute.
Eduardo Camavinga—6.5: Replaced Dani Ceballos and played the last 20 minutes. Managed 15 touches and 11 accurate passes.
